The Carbo-Loading Continues

Yesterday was a lot like Monday. Same breakfast, same lunch. Carbs, carbs, and a little protein. Supper was cheese-stuffed tortellini, a sibling to the cheese-stuffed shells that were on Monday night's menu.

Paying attention is starting to pay off, though. I've eaten more fruit today and if supper goes according to plan I will get at least two servings of veggies.

The American Cancer Society provides useful comparisons for estimating one serving of different types of fruits and veggies.

One serving of fruit = 1/2 cup or 1 medium piece (about the size of a tennis ball). For dried fruit a serving is 1/4 cup.

One serving of vegetables is 1/2 cup, except for leafy veggies like lettuce or spinach, which require a whole cup to constitute a serving. But that isn't as much as it sounds. A cup of lettuce is four lettuce leaves.

  1. I like the idea of publicly making food choices. Awareness seems to be a big problem when it comes to food. (Read: Awareness is *my* big problem when it comes to food). I started going to Weight Watchers with my mom, though, and it's been working pretty well for me (Yay for being down 7 pounds!) Let's hope it keeps working. I'm going to try to get Sam to go with me this weekend / when we go back to school. Motivate each other, right?
